Pet of the Week

BENTLEY

Shar Pei/Labrador Retriever Mix

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated"
-Ghandi

Bentley is about 2 years old. He is about 60 lbs and quite strong. He is incredibly friendly and, according to the former owner, good with cats and kids. Bentley seems to love all the dogs at his foster home. The former owner also says Bentley is housebroken. He will be available as soon as he is neutered.
Scroll to bottom for contact information or call ARF at (877) ARF-JCNC. For the $70 adoption fee, this animal has received rabies shot and heartworm test if old enough. It has also received puppy shot, worming, and spay/ neuter--and sometimes a considerable investment of services and treatments.
Because of this animal's uncertain history, we assume he or she is not housebroken unless we have stated otherwise. However, most dogs are trainable and eager to please. ARF will happily advise prospective owners about crate training and the latest housebreaking tools.
We set up at our adoption location on 50 Railroad Ave., Sylva, NC every Saturday from 1-3 PM (sometimes earlier or later if the weather is nice). You can also view animals by making an appointment with the foster parent. Get approximate directions from your location.
Visit our web site for more information on adoption AND our adoption application.
Sponsor me! If you can't adopt right now, consider donating the adoption fee of this pet. ARF spends an average of $125 housing and caring for pets; some cost us much more.

The Path to Happiness

"The path to happiness runs through miles of clouded hell." - Imagine Dragons

This has to be one of my all time favorite song lyrics. It could not be more true. Something new that I am trying is recognizing and embracing the big and small challenges that I have overcome in my life to get where I am today. I challenge you to try this as well. I have found that I appreciate myself more and the people that I love that I have found my way to over the years.

I am also trying to smile more often. You always hear people say that if you smile more you will feel happier, I never believed it but its true. I push myself to smile at the little things. When I am aggravated, I smile. When I am sad, I smile. When I am happy, I smile. No matter what emotion I am feeling, I smile. In my opinion its making me a more optimistic person. How do I make myself smile when I am so upset, or angry, you ask? I think of the things in my life that I appreciate. My friends, my family, my pets, my job, my home, the food in my fridge, the money in my bank account. The things that I used to never think twice about that I am now realizing that not everyone has. We take so many things for granted and we don't even realize that we are doing it.

Challenge yourself to become a more humble person. Challenge yourself to appreciate the little things. Challenge yourself to view yourself as strong and accomplished. Challenge yourself to smile.

Sorry

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't posted in a week :( I know, I know I suck. Well I have some bad news. My work schedule got changed, I am now working 8-6. So I'm not going to be able to do the volunteering, at least not until tax season is over. I did talk to the animal shelter to see if they had extended volunteering hours, and they don't.

I feel kind of lost right now. I'm just not really sure where to go from here. I think what I'm going to try and work on is myself for now. I guess I can't really help animals much, if I can barely take care of myself and get my butt into gear.

I want to lose weight, I want to go back to school, and I want to lead a more disciplined life. I just don't know where to start.

I'm going to reflect on these things and get back to you. Hopefully I can figure out a starting point.

Good News Everyone

I love Futurama :)

The good new is that I was able to get my cat Hank into the vet! He is going to get neutered on Monday (poor guy) as well as getting a physical, his shots, and being checked for feline leukemia. Its going to be a rough day for Mr. Kitty.

Today is Friday! Well not my Friday considering that I have to work tomorrow, but at least it is pay day. The bad news of the day is that my boyfriend decided not to go back to school this semester :( I really wish that he would have, but I wasn't going to force him too, especially considering the fact that he failed every class last semester, because he just didn't do it.

Anyway, next week is a new week of the new year, and I hope to improve on my productivity. We'll see how it goes. I will keep you posted.

Have a good and safe weekend, keep your pets safe as well. You probably won't hear from me again until Monday.

Real Funny Guys...

I came into work today with 35 sticky notes plastered on my monitor. It appears that they all say hello in a different language. Thank you so much Nichole Hill for your wonderful sense of humor! :) Of course Nichole's comment was "it will be impressive if you can figure out what language they are all in." My response to that was "Yes it would but I would rather not."

Pet of the Week

{name} - {breed}Wriggley
Boxer
German Shepherd Dog
Adult, Male
Jackson County Humane Society (ARF)
Sylva, NC

Wriggley is a two year old, male, Boxer/Shepherd mix.  He is tri-color with short hair.  He was originally rescued from a shelter in Georgia by a young man who has loved him dearly.  Now the young man is going into the Navy and needs to find a placement for his companion.  Wriggley is housebroken, micro-chipped, neutered and up-to-date with all his shots.  He is good with adults, kids, and cats.  He is not a barker.  He is well-behaved and will make a great family pet.  Wriggley's adoption fee is $70.
For more information about Wriggley, contact his present owner at (706)248-6328.  You can meet Wriggley at ARF's weekly adoption site.

Okay guys I am going to start posting a pet of the week, every Wednesday! These pets are going to be found at ARF, the Jackson County Animal Shelter, CatMan 2, or the Macon County Animal Shelter. If they come from any where else I will state so in my post.

Advertise these precious babies, they need forever homes!

To Do List Revised

Alright guys it looks like I am going to have to revise my to do list. :( Yes I know I have failed once again. I am not going to be able to call the animal shelter or Sylva Animal Hospital today. I wasn't able to squeeze it into my lunch break and they are now closed. Tomorrow will be the day though! My revised to do list is as follows:

1) Clean Kitchen

We'll see how that goes. I would hate to fail at that too, but just in case don't hold your breath.

On a brighter note I received some wonderful words of encouragement from a friend of mine Ian Carr. Here is my shout out to you Ian!

Now if only some of you could follow his example. I know your checking me out people I have this neat little tool that lets me look at my stats. As a matter of fact I have received two views from Germany. My blog has gone global! In all reality its probably some spam site or something like that but a girl can dream. Even if you guys find me boring, tell me! I can't improve if you don't tell me what I am doing wrong. Just take it easy on my delicate soul. (snicker, snicker).

Well I will talk to you guys later, probably tomorrow. Have a good night. :)
